Hey friends! Today we are talking about the home trends of 2026 and what we can expect to see as we say goodbye to 2025. I have loved everything the design world brought us this year, especially the color and personality that stepped into center stage. The latest interior design trends are shifting in a really beautiful way, and if you love warm neutrals and cozy/meaningful spaces, this is your year to shine!
If there is one thing interior designers are making clear for the new year, it is that minimalism is a thing of the past. The era of cool grays, stark white everything, and cold open floor plans has faded. Homes are officially becoming warmer, softer, and more personal. The current interior design trends we are stepping into are all about the home feel, not perfection.
So let’s talk about what is coming in the year 2026, what is staying, and how to create a home that tells your story!

1. Minimalism Is Out and Meaning Is In
The “less is more” mindset that controlled interior design styles for so long is shifting in a big way. A home is no longer meant to feel stripped down or staged like a design studio. Instead of hiding personality to match what is popular on social media, homeowners and interior designers are choosing meaning, color, and what they truly love to bring into design! Homes are becoming layered with rich color, vintage finds, handmade pieces, and natural elements that give a space depth and cozy.
This welcoming look shows up in so many ways. But we are seeing it most with warm wood tones, natural textures, organic shapes, soft textures, and collected decor.
Mass-produced pieces of plywood furniture are being traded for real wood pieces that look like they’ve been collected over time (and maybe they have!) Craftsmanship will truly rein this year.
These decorating trends are helping living rooms and dining rooms feel relaxed and lived in rather than overly curated.

2. The Return of Warmth & Color
Home design in 2026 is taking a WELCOME turn toward warmth and color. We’ve seen this happening slowly since 2024, but this year the shift to color will be very apparent.
This year will be a true shift away from the cool minimalism that’s defined the last decade or so! Instead of seeing living rooms painted all stark whites and sterile grays – richer palettes and moody accents are coming into play. And with it, bringing a sense of comfort that many of us have missed.
Warm neutrals and deep, rich colors are taking center stage. We will be seeing warm whites and off-whites and earthy color palettes with rich browns, shades of red, and natural wood tones replace cool grays that dominated recent years.
Chris Loves Julia’s living room (above) is a perfect picture of where home design is headed – warm, layered, and full of personality. The creamy walls, rich wood beams, and soft glow from the lighting make it feel cozy and lived-in instead of staged or sterile.

3. “Collected Over Time” Feel & Nostalgia
There is something so comforting about a home that feels collected over time! As if the pieces have been chosen slowly and thoughtfully. This trend is becoming more loved in 2026 as people move away from matching sets and quick purchases and toward homes that feel personal and meaningful. A collected home has layers, stories, and a cozy sense of being lived in.
The biggest interior design trend of 2026? Designing for yourself. Interior trends come and go, but personality lasts.

4. Traditional Home Style
Traditional home style is returning, but in a fresh way. Instead of feeling outdated, traditional style is becoming modern design with character. Rich texture and thoughtful layering give each room visual interest. It feels like a comforting nod to heritage mixed with new ideas that fit the current interior design trends.
Built-in shelves, warm wood flooring, and timeless furniture shapes are becoming beloved again. Homes are shifting away from sparse, empty spaces and embracing real life. This includes art that means something, side tables with small collections, and lighting that creates a soft glow throughout the space.
5. The Nancy Meyers Effect

The Nancy Meyers home aesthetic still reigns in 2026. And honestly, I hope it never leaves! And in case you haven’t heard what the Nancy Meyers aesthetic is… think The Parent Trap, Something’s Gotta Give, or Father of the Bride, you know the feeling. The homes in Nancy Meyers’ films almost steal the show – they’re layered, lovely, and filled with the kind of lived-in charm that just makes you want to throw on a sweater and head to the farmer’s market. They feel like they belong to real people, not a set decorator or interior designer. That’s the magic of it!
Expect more sculptural lighting, stone backsplashes, warm neutrals, and architectural features that add visual interest — like beams, trim, and millwork. These small details create a cohesive look while giving your space depth and charm. This is a look that interior designers expect to keep growing, especially as people want homes that feel lived in rather than curated for social media.

7. Wallpaper & Texture

We’ve seen wallpaper and texture are making a comeback over the last couple of years – and it is one of the most charming home decor trends of the upcoming year, as well. After a long stretch of flat, white walls and minimal color, people are craving character!
Wallpaper brings instant personality to a space, whether you choose soft florals, bold patterns, or geometric designs. It adds depth and warmth in a way paint alone cannot. Even a small space like a powder room, a headboard wall, or a little reading nook can transform completely with a thoughtful print. Texture is showing up too, from woven shades and natural materials to plaster walls and warm stone that bring an entire room to life.
These design elements add visual interest without overwhelming the space. They help a room feel more grounded and lived in while still allowing your style to shine. It is a simple way to bring richness and charm into your home, and it works beautifully with warm neutrals, natural wood, and the earthy tones that will take center stage next year.
In short, home trends of 2026 are not about reinventing the wheel! They are about returning to what truly lasts and makes a home truly timeless. Real homes should be made up of what you love!
Until next time,
Courtney
