The Best Dark Green Paint Colors

Let’s talk dark green paint colors, shall we? Green is such an easy way to make a statement in any room. A couple of weeks ago, I shared our bedroom and how a simple coat of green paint changed the whole space. If you missed it, I shared our color choice in this post! I’d been thinking about painting our room for months and researching the right shade of green for our room. With that being said –
Today I am sharing the dark green paint colors that I fell in love with in my research! Green is actually my favorite color, so the fact that it’s taken the design world by storm THRILLS me.
It was hard to land on just one green for our bedroom, but I am positive that you couldn’t go wrong with any of these beautiful shades. They are tried and true, and I’ll be sharing examples of each color below! And after creating this post, I’ve officially convinced myself to paint a few more areas of our home (hehe)
1. RAINY AFTERNOON – BENJAMIN MOORE
I have to start with this one because it’s where I landed for our moody green bedroom. This one just called to me. It’s a subtle green that can look almost gray or blue depending on how the light hits it, but remains a deep green. It absolutely has rainy afternoon vibes, and I’ve been sold on it since the first paint stroke. If you are leaning towards green or blue or even a moody gray, here’s your color. It’s truly such a calming color in our home, and I love the variation.

2. BOREAL FOREST – BENJAMIN MOORE
While more green hued than Rainy Afternoon, Boreal Forest still remains more a neutral green to me. It’s a rich, true green that isn’t overpowering and gives me moody forest vibes. I also love that green paint has the power to take something so simple and give it flare.

3. GREEN SMOKE – FARROW & BALL
Green Smoke was my runner-up for our bedroom. I wanted something just a litttttle darker, but this color – oh man! It has the green/blue vibes of Rainy Afternoon, but is a bit more green hued. Based on my photo research, this one can appear blue or green based on the light. A stunning green that you couldn’t go wrong with.
4. CARRIAGE GREEN – FARROW & BALL
Carriage Green is a gorgeous cross between an emerald and hunter green. It’s elegant. Can a paint color be elegant? It has it happening. If you’re torn between a moody emerald green or a more earthy, forest green – this is your color.
5. CHIMICHURRI – BENJAMIN MOORE
Chimichurri is a bold yet neutral hunter green. I love the look of this on a piece of furniture or cabinets. It steals the show! A perfect color to use as your pop of green.
6. ESSEX GREEN – BENJAMIN MOORE
A deep, emerald green that is allmoostt black. Torn between green and black? This is a great color choice!
7. PEWTER GREEN – SHERWIN WILLIAMS
Pewter Green is a color I’ve been seeing all over the place lately, but especially in kitchens. It’s a stunning, neutral green that adds a calming element to any kitchen. My photo research of this color points to it having a hue or green or blue, based on lighting. It’s a little blue here, but in other photos it lends itself to being a bit more green.
8. PEALE GREEN – BENJAMIN MOORE
I didn’t know I would love a paint color this green, but this one does it for me. A true green paint color that has me feeling all the forest vibes. I love how it looks against the modern elements of this stunning and simple kitchen.
What to do after you choosing your dark green paint color?
My suggestion after narrowing to 2 or 3 favorites is to try those out in the space you plan to paint. See how light hits it and what hue it is giving off. You can do this by picking up samples at your local hardware store and either painting directly onto the wall, or painting a piece of paper with the different colors and taping them to the wall.
We have all of our paint colors color matched at Home Depot and have never had any issues with the color being off.
